As I read the flyer for the camp, it seemed quite interesting, so I took a risk and applied for a RUMERTIME Prevention/Intervention Coach (RPIC) position. When I received the email that I was accepted to become a RPIC I was excited and overwhelmed. I was excited to introduce myself to a new atmosphere, but overwhelmed with all the information about the camp I received in the email. After being extremely anxious and worried, applying to the RUMERTIME Summer Camp resulted in being a blessing in disguise.

We started our week training before camp and I was in for a mind changing experience. I was introduced to the RUMERTIME process, which involved Recognizing, Understanding, Managing, Expressing, and Reflecting on an individual’s Thoughts, Interactions, Mindsets, and Emotions. The process is authentic and simple. While learning the process and getting walked through each step, I have been able to think and understand the mind differently. The purpose of the camp started to unfold and I was profoundly enlightened. Some things about the process I had trouble understanding, however once camp started, through teaching the context to the seedlings, it all came together.

During the virtual camp, it was a unique way we had the opportunity to teach the Cultivating SEEDS System (CSS) Framework, which is a tool that gives meaning to the information obtained from a person. As an RPIC, we had the chance to hear seedlings’ and parents’ stories and understand their mindsets. We helped them realize how every emotion emerges from somewhere. All our emotions are driven by our thoughts and without a thought there cannot be an emotion. The RPICs were trained that there is a root to dig towards for every foggy emotion or behavior. The RUMERTIME process can help anyone and everyone take control of their mind to get themselves into a conscious way of living.

Before being a part of the RUMERTIME family, I asked God to save me from my thoughts and he brought me to a camp where I learned how to manage all of my thoughts. Becoming a RPIC has been an amazing experience as well. Being one of the youngest coaches gave me insight on being a seedling as well as a young adult. I have become my own life coach as well as a life coach for my loved ones and friends. No more overthinking everything or stressing myself unnecessarily. Learning the importance of planting those positive thoughts and mindsets are essential to having that healthy mindset we all strive for in this world today. Not only has the information been beneficial, but the community of the RUMERTIME family has added to my self confidence from being a part of such a supportive group of individuals. I know that what has been planted in me over that three week period will take me a long way to live a healthy and conscious life.

by: Nyra Govan NUGGET In April 2020, I was offered the opportunity to volunteer for the RUMERTIME Summer Camp by the Palmetto Community Action Partnership (PCAP) program, where I have worked for 4 consecutive summers.
