An individualized Recovery Works Skills Training and Development Program

What Is ROOTS

GCSCORED ROOTS™ - Recovery-Oriented Outcomes Through Skills - is an individualized, face-to-face, structured, and time-limited Skills Training and Development program for eligible Recovery Works participants. Through structured interventions tied to goals in the participant’s recovery plan, ROOTS™ helps reduce psychosocial barriers and restore self-care, daily-life management, problem-solving, and other abilities essential to independent living. Participants practice and demonstrate skills while staff monitor progress toward measurable recovery goals.

The GCSCORED Approach

ROOTS™ incorporates the CSS Framework® and the RUMERTIME Process® to help participants
Recognize, Understand, Manage, Express, and Reflect as they apply new skills in everyday life.

Skills Participants May Strengthen

Daily Life Management

Managing appointments and routines; food planning and preparation; money management; and maintaining the living environment.

Community Services and Navigation

Learning the appropriate use of community services, transportation, resources, and supports.

Recovery and Wellness Self-Management

Following an established recovery plan, organizing recovery-related responsibilities, recognizing when support is needed, communicating with providers, and receiving medication-related education from nonmedical staff within their scope.

Housing and Money Management

Building skills to locate and maintain housing, budget for housing expenses, understand renter rights and responsibilities, communicate with landlords, and make roommate decisions.

Social and Self-Advocacy Skills

Asking for help, seeking clarification, communicating needs, problem-solving, and interacting effectively in work and community environments.

Who May Benefit

ROOTS™ may be appropriate for an adult who:

  • Is eligible for or enrolled in Recovery Works
  • Has a history of justice involvement or is currently justice-involved
  • Has a documented mental health and/or substance use disorder affecting recovery and functioning
  • Experiences a psychosocial barrier affecting everyday functioning
  • Has an individualized recovery-plan goal that can be addressed through skill development
  • Can benefit from structured instruction, practice, feedback, and progress monitoring

Eligibility, consent, recovery-plan alignment, and service appropriateness are reviewed.
