The South Bend Alive Grant generously funds the Connect & Empower P2P SEEW Mentoring Program, allowing us to focus on empowering young people by providing valuable mentorship and life skills that promote resilience, emotional intelligence, and personal development. Aligned perfectly with the aspirations of the South Bend Alive Grant, we are united in our mission to guide youth toward positive, constructive paths and foster their personal and societal growth. This transformative program blends research-driven insights with practical, real-world applications, ensuring students have access to mentorship, employability training, and a supportive environment where they can thrive and contribute positively to the South Bend community.

Goals

Program Goals: Inspiring Change, One Youth at a Time

Our Connect & Empower Peer to Peer Social-Emotional Education and Wellness (P2P SEEW) Mentoring Program is driven by four key goals that align with the mission of the South Bend Alive Grant:

Engage: Elevating Youth Voices

We actively listen to our youth, ensuring their voices are heard and celebrated. This program serves as a platform for them to express themselves, contributing to a stronger sense of self and community.

Educate: Harnessing Lived Experiences

We leverage the rich, lived experiences of each participant, transforming their personal journeys into powerful tools for problem-solving, growth, and real-world applications. Their stories are central to their learning and development.

Equip: Uncovering Inner Resources

Through the RUMERTIME Process®, we help each participant discover their innate strengths and resourcefulness. We focus on developing key skills that prepare them for the challenges they will face in life and equip them with tools to succeed.

Empower: Cultivating Personal Power

Our program fosters self-awareness and personal power. We assist youth in recognizing that their greatest strength lies within, helping them realize the power of self-expression, emotional intelligence, and leadership.

By focusing on these goals, the Peer to Peer Mentoring Program not only helps students thrive in the present but also equips them with the tools and mindset to positively impact their future.

The Mentors

They Utilize the RUMERTIME Process®

Mentors are taught to utilize the RUMERTIME Process®, a culturally responsive approach that helps individuals Recognize, Understand, Manage, Express, and Reflect on their Thoughts, Interactions, Mindsets, and Emotions (TIME®). Through ongoing coaching and supervision, mentors continue to grow in their roles, ensuring they provide the most effective support to the students they work with.

Are Carefully Selected & Trained

Our RUMERTIME® Certified Peer Mentors are carefully selected and trained to provide the highest level of support and guidance to their mentees. Each mentor undergoes comprehensive training focused on neuroscience-based practices, ensuring they are well-equipped to understand how the brain influences thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. This training is provided by representatives from GCSCORED, who are experts in youth development and mental health education.

Beyond emotional and social guidance

Beyond emotional and social guidance, the Peer Mentors also help students develop key life skills, such as problem-solving, relationship-building, and leadership.
